No Matter Where You Go... There You Are

The Sepulveda Dam is an iconic piece of architecture in Los Angeles. It has been featured in many movies of various genres. When I was a kid there were many movies that influenced me - one of them was an obscure film titled “Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension”.
As the end credits roll on screen an 80s synth tune plays and the actors walk around Sepulveda Dam. As a child it seemed like a magic far away land that the movie took place. Many years later I would have the fortune of filming there on a television show.
The title comes from a line in the movie that Buckaroo Banzai says. It’s a reminder to me that as you move through life you are always grounded in the moment - whether you realize it or not.

Many years later I would have the fortune of filming there on the show The Goldbergs which takes place in the eighties. In a way this painting is a symbol of nostalgia and also coming full circle in my current time and place. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did painting it. Also if you haven’t seen the movie you should check it out. It’s amazing.
