This painting was inspired by the numerous mid century modern apartment buildings I have lived in when I first moved to Southern California years ago.  A common area among these buildings is the pool area centered in the middle of the building.   I always thought of them as an oasis - amongst the concrete desert.

The vivid blue of the pool contrasts with the warm, golden tones of the building and the sun-drenched deck, while the shadows from the palm trees and railings add depth and movement. The empty lounge chairs and the bright orange float were intentional choices to evoke a sense of solitude and nostalgia.
