Behind The Scenes 5
30 × 24 inches, Oil on Canvas, 2025
This painting is the latest installment in my ongoing series exploring the hidden infrastructure of major film studios where I’ve worked in the past. These environments—often overlooked—possess a strange, sculptural beauty that emerges from their functional design.
Towering beige buildings, clustered tightly together, form narrow alleyways where bicycles are a common mode of transportation for crew. Snaking through these corridors are massive utility ducts—metal tubes of varying lengths and diameters—jutting from central hubs to feed power, air, and water into the vast sound stages.
These industrial elements, in stark contrast to the clean studio facades, create unexpected visual compositions that resemble found sculptures. In this piece, I aimed to bring all these components together—to convey a sense of scale and tension, with the bicycle and pipes leading the eye toward a central focal point.
